Plant Variety Protection : Plant variety is a plant group within a single botanical taxon of the lowest rank. If a plant breeder discovers and develops a new plant variety, he can seek protection for his new plant variety by applying for Plant Variety Registration. Such registration provides legal protection to the plant variety of a breeder in the form of Plant Breeder's Rights (PBRs), because creation of new plant varieties is an intellectual property asset ; the protection can last for upto 25 years.
